Great Wall Motor, a top SUV and pick-up truck maker in China, starts shipping 400 units of the Haval H5 mid-size SUV to Italy, making a rare move among home-grown Chinese automakers to sell in the EU. This is one of several batches, which will be totaled 2,000 units, scheduled for delivery this year. The first was shipped in March.
Great Wall first entered Italy in 2006, but its sales there has remained low.
The Chinese version of Haval H5 is priced between Yuan 99,800 and 158,800, making it highly competitive against rivals like Hyundai ix35, Tucson, and Kia Sportage.
The H5 comes with two types of engines: the gasoline 2.4L 4G69 from Mitsubishi, and the diesel 2.5TCI developed jointly by Great Wall and Bosch. For both types, the consumer can choose either a two-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive model.
