With music and magic, Geely unveiled the Gleagle McCar concept at a grand ceremony held on Tuesday morning in Shanghai. To show this is not just another fanciful and silly proposal for future city transportation, a live demonstration of how it could be used was given.
The name "McCar" means "magic car" or "motorcycle car," as the concept, only about 3.5 meters long, combines a motorcycle with a four-seater mini city car. When stuck in traffic, it can roll out a motorcycle, electric and foldable, from the back, creating enough space for a wheelchair to park in.
Geely McCar is said to have two powertrain choices: all-electric or plug-in hybrid. The powertrain of the car would be integrated with that of the parked-in motorcycle so that the two vehicles can share battery power or be mutually re-charged (though the motorcycle apparently cannot store much energy). What’s more, a charged, on-board motorcycle could propel the rear wheels of the car, making a four-wheel drive.
