On March 01, Changan Auto put 100 E30 pure-electric cars to the test in the Fangshan district of Beijing, where they would serve as taxicabs in a demonstration program. The Changan E30 is a facelifted version of the Saibao EV developed by Hafei Auto, a subsidiary of Changan. It is manufactured in Changan’s Fangshan factory, which is designed to produce middle- and high-end models as well as alternative fuel vehicles.

With a 2600mm wheelbase, the E30 sedan is 4435mm long, 1710mm wide, and 1470mm tall. Employing a 45kw brushless permanent magnet motor from Broad-Ocean EV (YTD045W01 ) and lithium-ion battery pack from Beijing Pride Power Battery, it has a curb weight of 1610kg, top speed of 125km/h, and a range of no less than 160km; its battery pack can be replenished in just 30 minutes through quick-charging mode. To make the E30 perform consistently in cold as in heat, Changan developed for it a temperature-control system.

The E30 is projected to sell for 350,000 Yuan to 380,000 Yuan, compared with the 369,800 Yuan retail price of BYD e6, which went on sale in October last year.

By 2020, Changan Auto plans to build 3 platforms for hybrid cars and 2 for pure electric cars, and targets to sell at least 650,000 alternative fuel vehicles, including 150,000 pure electric cars. The EV production line in Fangshan has an annual capacity of 10,000 units.

The 100 E30s will be managed by the Fangshan Fangan Taxi Company, established specially for the demonstration program, and get maintenance services from local Changan dealerships. Working with Beijing Electric Power Company, Changan has installed 50 charging posts in Fangshan to serve the EV taxicabs.
