Marin Burela, President of Changan-Ford, extended thanks to Chinese consumers on Saturday as sales of the joint venture’s most popular model, the Focus compact, reached the one million mark.

The Focus built by Changan-Ford was first released in September 2005, as the second generation. It was not an instant hit. However, over the past seven years, its popularity has grown steadily. Average monthly deliveries approached 10,000 with the launch of the restyled model in 2009, and exceeded 150,000 in 2011. The half-a-million sales mark was set in March 2010. After the third gen was released in April this year, which has been sold on the new car market alongside the second-gen, called "Focus Classical," the compact got finally crowned as the most popular car in China, with 25,600 deliveries (counting both the second- and third-gen) in August.

The third-gen Focus is produced in Changan-Ford’s "second plant" in Chongqing, which cost US$490 million to build and opened in February this year. As a sedan or hatchback, it comes with three engine options, 1.6L, 1.8L, and 2.0L, and a price range of 99,800- 162,900 Yuan.
