Dongfeng-Yulon to Release Luxgen5 Sedan in Q1 2013

The Luxgen5 sedan, which hit the Taiwanese market in early August, will go on sale in the mainland in the first quarter next year, according to a R&D official at Dongfeng-Yulon.

A production version of the Luxgen Neora concept, the Luxgen5 sedan was launched in Taiwan on December 7, 2011. With a 2720mm wheelbase, the mid-size sedan sells for 69,000-91,000 NT dollars (about 140,000-200,000 Yuan). Consumer can choose between a 1.8T engine, which can produce a maximum of 150 horsepower and 250Nm of torque, and a 2.0T, which delivers up to 170 horsepower and 261Nm of torque.

Across the Strait, the Luxgen5 sedan is expected to debut at the Guangzhou motor show in December. Recent spy shots reveal that the mainland version is likely to get some minor adjustments in exterior styling (for instance, chrome strips will be added at the front).

Dongfeng-Yulon’s product line currently features only one model, Luxgen7 SUV. By the end of 2015, the joint venture plans to release up to 8 new cars, including the Luxgen5 and covering SUV, MPV, Sedan, and EV models and based on its three platform: L3 (for subcompact models), L5 (for compact/mid-size models), and L7 (for mid-size/large models). Among them, the Luxgen Master CEO MPV, developed on the L7 platform, could hit showrooms in as early as the next month.
