Shanghai-GM will discontinue its Buick flagship, the Park Avenue, before the year end, says a marketing official at the joint venture. The slot left in the Buick lineup will remain unfilled until 2015 when a new full-size model will be launched.
The Chinese version of Holden Caprice from Australia, Shanghai-GM’s Park Avenue was first released in April 2007 with two engine options–a 2.8 V6 and 3.6 V6. The current, 2010 model is powered by a 3.0 V6 (rated 187kW/6700rpm and 296kW/2900rpm), which is mated to a 6-speed auto gearbox; only one trim level, the luxury, is available, priced at 369,900 Yuan. In the first nine months of this year, only 425 units were delivered.
Few details are known currently about the new top Buick model coming in 2015 except that it is likely to get a 162kW 2.0T and 187kW 3.6 V6 engine.
