2,874 pure-electric vehicles were sold in the first three months of 2013, up 57% from a year earlier, according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Deliveries of plug-in hybrids reached 301.
The Chinese government refers to plug-in EVs, pure-electric or hybrid, as "new energy vehicles." CAAM recorded 3,175 sales in this category in the first quarter.
In this period automakers in China produced 2,691 pure-electrics and 300 plug-in hybrids. Production of non-plug-in hybrids and natural gas vehicles, not included in the "new energy vehicle category," reached 3,512 and 18,317 units, respectively, with 4,033 and 18,309 sales.
