Hongqi ("Red Flag") L5, the entry model in FAW’s ultra-luxury lineup, hit headlines earlier this year when it served as the official ride of the French president Hollande visiting Beijing (as shown in the first two pics below). In a few months it will be made available to the public, or the wealthy few–as it is reportedly to cost at least 1 million Yuan (US$162,600). While the car was launched at the 2013 Shanghai motor show, few details of it have been confirmed until now.

The 3435mm wheelbase of the L5 is 465mm shorter than that of the Hongqi flagship, the L9, which is more than 6-meter long (the L7’s wheelbase has not been confirmed, said to be either 3435mm or 3600mm). Weighing nearly 3.2 tons, it is propelled by a 300kW 6.0L V12 engine, shared by all of the three models in the L series, and burns 20L of gasoline per 100km.
