The M5 is a notchback version of the Riich M1 supermini. The development code for it was S18C, indicating it shared a platform (S18) with the QQ, M1, and X1. At the Beijing motor show in April 2008 Chery showcased a concept "Faira HH," which anticipated the M5. Deliveries started on September 15, 2010. A little more than a year later Chery stopped producing it as many consumers found the three-box car extremely ugly.
